God god , I finally got around to reading it and can’t wait to talk about about it ! Maas has been on my auto-buy list for so long but I held out longer before getting this one because I’m just wary after ACOWAR .
Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas
My rating: ★★★
Genre : Young Adult
Theme : Fantasy
Summary :
Chaol Westfall has always defined himself by his unwavering loyalty, his strength, and his position as the Captain of the Guard. But all of that has changed since the glass castle shattered, since his men were slaughtered, since the King of Adarlan spared him from a killing blow, but left his body broken.
His only shot at recovery lies with the legendary healers of the Torre Cesme in Antica—the stronghold of the southern continent’s mighty empire. And with war looming over Dorian and Aelin back home, their survival might lie with Chaol and Nesryn convincing its rulers to ally with them.
But what they discover in Antica will change them both—and be more vital to saving Erilea than they could have imagined.
What I Think :
Idk..maybe I should have stayed away from this book ? Don’t get me wrong it wasn’t awful but it was just boring . But before I launch into why I didn’t enjoy it , I have to admit that I’ve never been a fan of Chaol . I read the series in a weird order and fell in love with Rowan before meeting Chaol , and then I started hating him in Queen of Shadows , so you know .
Now that I got that out , it was a bit hard to get into a book that was about a character I just didn’t like . But I tried to hook myself in because I wanted to love Chaol but lord it’s not happening .
The book occurs alongside the empire of storms , filling in all the questions about what Chaol did in the Southern Continent while Maas wrecked us with the events in Aelin’s life . We see Chaol go out and try to gather allies and also meets healers . While there , he meets a powerful healer Yrene , who hates Chaol and then falls for him ( that again ! )
Honestly , I felt like the whole book existed to get Chaol back on his feet and to create another love story . I wasn’t expecting a healing-love story when I bought this book and that was a huge disappointment . I know there’s some adventure with the murders but it just felt like a distraction from the love story .
So it just wasn’t fun to read this after having a emotional roller coaster with Empire of Storms . It might just be me , so you’ll have to read it yourself to know if you like it or not.
The best part of the book ?
I did finally forgive Chaol and I think he’s okay . And the book was nice but it didn’t work well for my expectations of the series as a whole .
What’s your biggest book disappointment ?
I don’t know when I can read this series! Nice review! 🙂

I’m going to be starting this one soon (maybe tomorrow), but I like Chaol. I’m also intrigued about getting to see Yrene again, so that will be nice. But I’m not exactly expecting this to be the most amazing read in the world or anything. I enjoyed ACOWAR and Empire of Storms, but neither was the best we’ve seen from Maas.

Ah…Empire of storms was one of the best from Maas for me . I don’t know if I’m biased but anything with Rowan and I love it lol . And I agree about ACOWAR .IDK if it’s really bad or its just me being disappointed after ACOMAF 😕. . I can’t wait for to read it , though ! I’ll hang around for the review 🙂

Oh no, ACOMAF was far better than ACOWAR (in my opinion).

OH THANK YOU! I have never been a fan of Chaol’s, and I read the books in proper order. I haven’t actually finished Tower of Dawn yet because I got so bored. It’s frustrating because I just want to know what’s up with my babes across the continent!
To be fair I DID have a hard time getting into TOG series, I read the first two, took like a six month break, then re-read them and caught up, now I can’t believe I ever waited so long to get these characters in my life. I was wondering if maybe the same would happen for TOD…but it hasn’t yet.
As for other book disappointments, I was pretty bummed I didn’t like Heartless by Marissa Meyers, especially because I am completely in love with the Lunar Chronicles!
Thanks for posting this review!

I haven’t read the lunar chronicles , so I guess I’m going to be reading it since you love it 🙂 . And TOD is honestly boring . But I hope you’d be able to complete the book soon 🙂

YES! Please read it!
Also do you think any parts of TOD will have an effect on my understanding of Throne Of Glass 7? Because I might be more inclined to power through if I knew it was going to play into the larger story, you know?

Yep . Yrene is an important development and I suppose you’ll have to read it to understand the next book , so I hope you get through it .
