The Summary :
Told in Kvothe’s own voice, this is the tale of the magically gifted young man who grows to be the most notorious wizard his world has ever seen.
The intimate narrative of his childhood in a troupe of traveling players, his years spent as a near-feral orphan in a crime-ridden city, his daringly brazen yet successful bid to enter a legendary school of magic, and his life as a fugitive after the murder of a king form a gripping coming-of-age story unrivaled in recent literature.
A high-action story written with a poet’s hand, The Name of the Wind is a masterpiece that will transport readers into the body and mind of a wizard.
What I think :
Short : Not worth your precious time or money
Honestly , I’m just stricken by how much I hate this book . That is probably because I picked this one with high hopes and I didn’t deserve this book . No one deserves this .
You know those geeks who are hiding in the corners of your high school ? That’s the sort of guy Kvothe is . I get geeky . I’ve been one for the large part of my short life but ..he’s not a geek . He’s something different . Apparently , his only goal in life is to prove how better he is at everything than us mere mortals . Geez . Does that sound like a boy you’d be interested in ?
I barely managed to get through this book . The third person writing was already bad enough and then Mr . Rothfuss went out and took us into this guy’s head . That was probably supposed to make me understand but I don’t . If anything , I hate him more .
This book is basically about how Kvothe is awesome and awesome and awesome and awesome and awesome …and did I mention ,
stupid AWESOME ? People are always loving him , hating him or are out to get him . Why ever ? I can not see anyone bothering with that stick in the mud .
And the part were I was almost done and wanted to throw it out and call it a ‘IDC’ is when the secondary characters couldn’t emphasise more about how amazing Kvothe is . Do you know why he’s the famous weirdo geek ? Because he practically talked the university into paying him to attend school . Doesn’t that sound oh so eye roll worthy ?
Final word and for your own good , don’t believe anyone who tells you this thing is amazing and is the next Harry Potter (*rolls eyes* ) . This book is cringe worthy and is a wall banger .
If you’ve read the book , tell me what you think !
